The Samoa Cake

IMG_1576

Every year I bake my husband’s birthday cake. My daughter has asked me at least 75 times what type of cake we would make, every year I make something totally new. I had no clue what I would make until I noticed that “someone,” aka my husband, had eaten the only two boxes of Samoa cookies I bought. I didn’t even know he liked them. They are MY FAVORITE. As far as I am aware his favorite is Thin Mint. So those cookies in my mind were MINE.

After some funny arguing about how we have been married for 10 years and dang it Thin Mint is what he is supposed to like not my Samoas, I set out looking for a Samoa cake. And I found this! Whoohoo! Thank you Betsy Life!

Cherry blossoms are a super big part of Japanese culture. Every year the citizens pay close attention to the forecasts  in anticipation of the cherry blooms. Hanami festivals celebrate the beauty of the blooming season. This is a time to relax with friends and family while enjoying the bounty of blossoms covering the area. The custom of these festivals date back many centuries in Japan.

This year as part of our booth for World Thinking Day the girls will be making these simple blooming branches to decorate our booth.

We have made it through our second year of cookie selling! It is such a relief to be done. Not to mention that we actually reached our cookie goal. Oh those cookie incentives….blast them! Lol.

Although I do have to admit, selling cookies is truly teaching my daughter about business. The lesson she learned this year- you DO NOT make random additions to the cookie order form while talking to your Grandfather on FaceTime. Yup. That was fun to figure back out. She is now one step closer to being a business women. Continue reading

Part of the fun of World Thinking Day is paying for your snack and swap from each country. The girls all have pockets loaded with nickels and off they go to shop. At the end of the event the money is collected and donated to a preselected charity.

With an average of 300 attending Girl Scouts there are quite a lot of nickels to be collected. Since our booth was going with everything Kawaii and Kokeshi, I scoured the internet and found this awesome Kokeshi doll. Continue reading
